Are custom poly bags recyclable?

Many custom plastic bags can be recycled, but the material matters. Bags made from polyethylene, commonly called PE, are often recyclable. They should be clean, dry, and free of heavy residue. However, most curbside programs do not accept them. Plastic bags can become tangled in standard sorting equipment.

Designated collection programs are usually the better option. Grocery stores, retail locations, and other collection sites may accept flexible plastic packaging. Before recycling your bags, remove any paper inserts, labels, or materials the program does not accept. It is also helpful to confirm the program’s requirements before dropping them off.
